Incarcerated for Life

With bhuhas and bhabhis busy preening, applying lip glossie ……II

Roads blocked, traffic comes to a halt …….I
But that doesn’t stop us from dancing amidst the stars ….II
Gyrating as if we are from mars ……..II
Some passerby smirk at us, but we take it with a pinch of salt ……..I

Just outside the marriage hall, there occurs milne ……..I
Which is a heavy weight lifting competition, where rivals exchange cash …..II
Hall(banquet) is a symbol of Punjabi baroque, spectacular and brash ….II
Dinner is a gourmand’s delight, encompassing exotic fruits to gulab jamun and phirne ……I

Cognac flows for the groom’s brigade ….I
Dj entices them, beckons the dance floor ……..II
They dance till they could no more …….II
Now it’s the ’turn’ of pheras , the couple’s parade ….I

Kith & kin surround the couple who can’t even kiss ……..I
The bride & groom revolve around the fire …….II
Vow never to cheat & live together till they go out on pyre …..II
Bride gets a poignant farewell & blessing for conjugal bliss ….I
